If anyone needs a blog on jeans for petites it is me! I am five foot two - and barely that. Five foot one and three quarters is more accurate. I am also very curvy, which if not managed, can actually make me look even shorter. But as with most things in my life I have learned to embrace what I have and be very grateful for it too. How lucky am I to have a working body, two arms and two legs, even if it is all a bit shorter than I would have liked. Dressing for your body shape is actually the key to style and feeling great in your own body. Work with it not against it, make the most of what you have. In my case, I have a small waist with generous boobs and bottom, so I tend to celebrate the waist, that is my first trick of the eye, and my second trick is wear one fitted thing and one looser thing. I find that that juxtaposition really works for me both in terms of my shape, but also style, and that it makes for a more interesting outfit but it also slightly trains the eye away from my body shape a little, and onto the outfit!
Being a short girl I also used to wear a lot of heels and platforms to increase my height, and yes that does work, but it also traps you in heel hell and let’s face it wearing heels every day is hell. Now what I tend to do is wear heels only with a flare and I reserve those looks for days when I am absolutely committed to a heel and flares, and I go for a kitten heel when I still want a little heel but want the flexibility of being able to trot about town without wanting to curse myself for being so stupid as to trap myself in heel hell.
So here is a list of my top 5 denim styles that I wear as a petite girl. 1. Sissy. I wear this with loafers, ballet flats, and a kitten heel
2. Kate. I wear this exclusively with a platform heel, as I need the height so as not to have to take it up. On those days, I am committed to the height and I don’t move far!
3. Anais. This is a quiet achiever and a style I have worn so much, it is very much an everyday jean for me and I wear it wiry ballet flats or a loafer. Sometimes I scrunch it at the ankle, other times I roll it a bit.
4. Astrid. I wear Astrid with a kitten heel or court shoe, and when the weather is good I even wear it with a very strappy flat. The Astrid is a great style for shorter girls!
5. Edith. I am a huge fan of Edith and honestly cannot recommend it enough for petite girls. I always roll it, I love that it hangs on my hips, I love that it is a little loose. It makes me feel slim, casual, nonchalant. All the feels! Try it with a scarf through the belt loops in place of a belt. Chic!
