Boyfriend jeans, they can mean many things, but really they are any slightly oversized style that could mean you have just pulled on your boyfriend’s jeans. This theory heavily relies on the assumption that your boyfriend is bigger than you! My boyfriend, or husband more accurately, is taller than me. But bigger? Not so sure.
I am a huge fan of loose jeans look, and top of my list is the Sissy, it is our barrel leg style of jeans that landed just a couple of months ago, the wash is called Oh Ok Then, so named because we were asked so often if we were bringing out a barrell leg jean that I rolled by eyes and had fun with the wash name, because I felt a little pushed into it. Pushed into it maybe, but sometimes that nudge is actually what you really need. I needed Sissy in my life, I just didn’t know it fully until she was in my wardrobe and it was all I wanted to wear. With a heel, with ballet flats, with loafers, and I will absolutely start pairing Sissy with ankle boots too. I can feel it coming.
A looser leg shape can also come in a jumpsuit and the Dusty is a tried and tested, much loved jumpsuit with a boyfriend shaped leg, it falls easily from an elasticated waistband with longer loose pockets, and has an all over nonchalant look and feel to it that, coupled with the one and done outfit solution of a jumpsuit, is honestly really very hard to beat. Take this style up a notch and pop the collar, and add a jumper over the top for cooler days. I love a loafer or trainers with Dusty, it feels like the best every day way to wear it, but I also really enjoy the juxtaposition of a great heel with Dusty for the evening. That uptown, downtown look always appeals to me. When something is slightly at odds, it makes the outfit so much more interesting.

If you are slim enough, and I am actually a curvier girl, the Anais shape would be your entry into a very gentle boyfriend shape. But really, Anais is in truth a relaxed skinny, designed with those effortlessly chic French girls in mind. The ones who seem to eat all the bread and cheese, and stay trim and slim despite it all. I actually really love Anais for this slightly looser skinny jeans look, for when I want to be wearing a slimmer jean, just not spray on. Let’s add Anais to the boyfriend conversation, even if she is just barely qualified.
My final suggestion is Genevieve, as I have fallen in love so hard with Genevieve. The super wide leg of my dreams, that is looser on the leg right from the top of the thigh, no leg grabbing here, just long loose denim jeans that feel generous and louche and hang beautifully from the mid waist. They swish around your body so easily, and the mid rise offers a delightful curve around the derrière. Note the western styling on the back pockets, for a nod to Beyoncé Texas Hold ‘Em. This is the ultimate in boyfriend jeans. And even your boyfriend will want them, that is one I’ll put money on.
