DONNA IDA: Where are you from and where did you grow up?
I am from Italy. I grew up in Rome - the eternal city!
DONNA IDA: How did you get started in the fitness world?
I have worked in the fitness business all my life. I was virtually brought up in a gym! My career in fitness began with me training as a professional Judo Player at my grandfather’s gym, in Rome. I then went on to achieve a diploma to become an aerobics and step instructor. I was so passionate about aerobics that I even started to compete on a professional level. In 2001, I moved to London where I expanded my repertoire. I achieved a YMCA Diploma and started to teach at the best gyms. It was in this period that I gained a Master's Degree in Theatre Directing from Middlesex University. After I graduated, I discovered Pilates and it changed my life. I found that it encompassed all my knowledge; from sports and dance to drama. I studied: Mat work with Modern Pilates UK to an advanced level, Reformer with Stott Pilates, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, Ladder Barrel with Pilates Body Europe and Boot Camp Pilates in Los Angeles with Sebastian Lagree.
DONNA IDA: What inspired your programme Francesca The Method?
Years of teaching others and working on my own body provided me with the knowledge that I have now applied to creating my own Method. To achieve the perfect body it is vital to combine proper nutrition with the right exercise routine. My Method provides a way of working with these two principles; healthy eating habits and movement.
DONNA IDA: What are your tips for working out?
Do conditioning-based exercises and keep active all day. I personally don't do high impact exercises or high intensity cardio. I believe that this is not the right combination for women as it can raise stress levels, slow down then metabolism in turn facilitate fat deposit. Based on my own experience, I feel it is better to chisel muscles with precise exercises and techniques, to create a long and lean physique without adding any bulk. The key is to be consistent and disciplined with your work out routine and food intake. It is through healthy eating and regular exercise that you too can achieve the body of your dreams. A little everyday does it!
DONNA IDA: What are your wardrobe essentials and how do you wear your jeans?
I love leggings. They are so versatile. You can wear them with heels for a night out, or with trainers during an active day. They always make you look feminine and they feel so comfortable! I am also a fan of the small cashmere cardigan. I always have one with me to keep warm in any season and of course a pair of high heels to add extra inches to my petite figure. :) Jeans are a perfect look all year around, I wear them with high knee boots in the winter or with stiletto's to feel sexy when on a date!
DONNA IDA: Why do you think jeans are such an iconic item?
Jeans change the wardrobe of nations and bring people of different socio-economic backgrounds to the same level. They are the most democratic item; from Cowboys to Catwalks everybody wears them! Jeans have become a symbol of belief, fashion and a popular culture movement. They have made history!
DONNA IDA: Which are your favourite jeans from our shoot and why?
J Brand white ripped denim! The fit like a glove and they look so cool and urban. A must have in your summer wardrobe.
DONNA IDA: Who is your denim icon?
Catherine Bach as Daisy Duke in The Duke of Hazzard! She made a teeny tiny pair of thigh-skimming hot pants - iconic! Since I first watched the TV show they have became part of my wardrobe - especially in the hot Roman summers!
DONNA IDA: Where in the world are girls best dressed? What kind of style do you admire?
I love Italians for their elegance, Parisians for being chic, Londoners love to be extravagant, New Yorker represent an urban chic and Californians for the sporty & relaxed look. I, personally prefer to keep it clean and simple, a mix between Italy and Paris. Elegant/Chic even if I'm only going to the gym! ;)
DONNA IDA: What’s your favourite restaurant?
Nobu, Old Park Lane. It feels like home. It is so cosy, the food is healthy and always tasty. There is always an amazing vibe and the view of hyde park adds the magic touch!

DONNA IDA: Where’s your ultimate holiday destination?
The Delano Hotel in Miami (South Beach) during the Easter holiday. A classic holiday destination that adds a lot of fun to my busy schedule.
DONNA IDA: What advice would you give to someone starting out in the fitness industry?
Be knowledgeable. In the fitness industry we work with people bodies. To make a real difference you need to know the theory before you put it into practice. Better not to do a quick 2 days course, but take the time to try give the very best you can so that you can make a difference in people's lives.
DONNA IDA: What’s next?
I recently embraced a new project that will allow everybody around the world to train with me and follow my advice. I made it in partnership with Body.NetworkTV. It's an online Fitness Tv that works a bit like Netflix. I have lots of filming scheduled for the next couple of months! My background is in acting and directing, so I feel that my two great passions are finally united.
