Estelle Pigault epitomises French style with a cool, edgy and nonchalant look which has resulted in thousands of followers on Instagram. Her blog Stelouche Babouche seeks to reinterpret catwalk outfits for real life, making her a London street style icon. Here she styles her favourite denim looks from Donna Ida.
DONNA IDA: Where are you from and where did you grow up?
I am from the sunny south of France, my hometown is a beautiful peninsula called Sete. I lived there until I moved to London 7 years ago.
DONNA IDA: How did you get started in the fashion world?
As far as I can remember, I always loved dressing up and creating outfits with my mum's and dad clothes. And I had no idea that I could make a living by styling people before I moved to London, people were asking me if I could help them to find their style or go shopping and that is how I became a personal stylist!
DONNA IDA: What inspired you to start your blog?
I wanted to show people that being stylish is not about following the trends and spend money on designer clothes. It's all about knowing what suits you, be confident, mixing affordable clothes with designer statement accessories. People always assume I spend money on clothes because I love a good designer bag or shoes but most of my wardrobe is actually from Primark!
DONNA IDA: What are your tips for taking a great photo?
Be confident with what you're wearing, if you're not comfortable in what you wear it will show. If the the look is pretty busy try to keep the background simple. If the look is basic, find an amazing background! It's all about the right balance.
DONNA IDA: Tell us about Fashion Week; what are your show highlights, what are you looking forward to and what are your survival tips?
I adore fashion weeks, I usually only do London and Paris and might go to NY for the AW16 in February. I cannot wait for Sacai, JW Anderson, Fendi, Anthony Vacarello, Stella Jean, Gucci and Mugler shows. They have been my favourites designers for the past couple of seasons and I get very inspired by the styling of their shows for my day to day looks.
Survival tip? COFFEE! COFFEE and COFFEE and my golden rule : NO HEELS!
DONNA IDA: What are your wardrobe essentials and how do you wear your jeans?
Denim, white t-shirt, leather jacket and a nice little Fendi bag! ( been obsessed with their monster bags lately!)
I tend to wear denim almost everyday, I have denim jacket, jeans, dungarees and not buying the Louis Vuitton denim boots last season is one of my biggest regret!
Lately I love to wear my jeans rolled up with funny socks and a pair of loafers, very Rock'a'billy! Or a good double denim look always works.
DONNA IDA: Why do you think jeans are such an iconic item?
It just goes with everything, they are so versatile! That is the only thing that never went out of fashion, you can't go wrong in jeans!
DONNA IDA: Which are your favourite jeans from our shoot and why?
The Sadie boiler suit as I will wear it all this winter with a fur coat and ankle boots and this summer with little white cami and a pair of ballerinas! The denim boiler suit is definitely a must have in my wardrobe.
DONNA IDA: Who is your denim icon?
Charlotte Gainsbourg, she spends her life in denim and is just so cool and chic! And Erin Wasson she is just such a badass and wear denim like no one else!
DONNA IDA: Where in the world are girls best dressed? What kind of style do you admire?
I have seen the best style in Brooklyn NY because the girls were effortlessly stylish, a mix of vintage, denim and leather, all i love! I love when people are stylish and never heard about fashion, they have their own style and don't think or care if people like it or not. I just admire when I can see the personality of someone trough what they wear.
DONNA IDA: Describe your style highs and lows?
I have always been a tomboy but when I was around 16, I tried to look more girly/feminine and it was a huge fail.
I quickly realised that I could be a bit more feminine version of myself without transvestite myself!
DONNA IDA: What’s your favourite restaurant?
Tayyabs in Aldgate East, I am a huge meat and spicy food lover so this restaurant is my heaven on earth!!!
DONNA IDA: Where’s your ultimate holiday destination?
Marrakesh. I have a lot of childhood memories there and I feel like it's my second home.
DONNA IDA: What is your favourite fashion magazine?
Glamour Paris and Vogue Spain I love their editorials as it's clothes that you can actually wear in the real life! No heels in the snow situation.
DONNA IDA: What advice would you give to a younger you?
DONNA IDA: What’s next?
Making plans for world domination! Just kidding, I never know what's net and that's why I wake up everyday!
