Autumn/Winter 2013 Wardrobe Staples

Winter has always been my favourite season; it’s far easier to look chic in winter than summer. I love layering, cashmere, leather and covering up from head to toe, so as you can imagine I am in my element right now. I have picked nine key items for AW13, treat them as your winter capsule wardrobe and everything will work together.

I always gravitate towards animal prints as I think of them as a staple and a neutral block colour; they look just as great with black as they do with a pop of colour. The dusky tones and silk fabrics are an effortless way to take this pattern from day to night and never be afraid to mix prints and fabrics.

Designers including Versace, Jean Paul Gautier and Tom Ford featured this trend on the catwalk for AW13.

Le Prestic Ouiston Dehors Trench, £605 (online soon), Le Prestic Ouiston Janine Blouse £315 (online soon), IDA Ivy in Iconic Blue, £150.

I teamed my silk La Prestic Ouiston Dehors Trench with their Janine Blouse and a pair of IDA Ivy in Iconic Blue. This outfit is simple yet elegant and I feel like I would be ready to accept any last minute invitations to a breakfast meeting or a cocktail launch and dinner.

I really like the Boy Meets Girl look that was featured on catwalks from Emporio Amrani to Vanessa Bruno and Dries Van Noten.

My only problem is that I am quite short so I had to think about how the look would work for me. The Joie Mariner Trouser was the perfect solution, it’s a slouchy trouser style but as it has the elastic hem I can wear them with loafers or heels.

By Malene Birger Jacket, £255 , Markus Lupfer Jumper, £250, Joie Mariner Trousers in Caviar, £140

I of course teamed them with the Markus Lupfer Snake print jumper which has a flash of red around the neck and a blazer from Malene Birger, I always love their blazers. This outfit is quite a “power” suit for me and anyone who knows me knows I don’t like to be too smart so I would add some chunky jewellery to give it a flirty edge.

Ever since I was blasted as a rebel at school (I had a short attention span and that is all honest!) I have lived up to the name and this season I am no different. I will be embracing this trend, grabbing it with both hands and refusing to let it go in true rebel style.

Saint Laurent did the Grunge look with check shirts over lace dresses; Fendi was more Punk while Versace went heavy on the leather and embellishment.

By Malene Birger Jumper, £240 , MiH shirt, £145, J Brand Leather Leggings, £835

To take this look into real life I teamed my J Brand Clean Leather Pull Up Legging with a shirt from Equipment and the Malene Birger Kinno jumper. For me this is the perfect mix of metallic and leather that always sit well together and it’s a look that will carry you into the festive period.
