Style Direction – The Thigh Hiding Cape

There are so many perks to owning a cape I don’t even know where to start.  Firstly, capes hide a multitude of sins; they cover the bum, they hide any excess weight you’re accidently carrying and they have so much volume in the body that they make all thighs look like Miranda Kerr’s.  You also do not need to ask yourself the question when dressing “will my coat fit over this chunky knit” as all chunky knits fit under a cape and they make you look instantly more sophisticated.

My three favourites for this season all fit different purposes.  The Roseanna Gina Cape is the dressiest as it features black lace and studs, it is also black and navy which is such a fabulous combination.  Wear it with a pair of black leather skinnies from J Brand or IDA and a cashmere roll neck sweater for an easy and chic look.

The 360 Dahlia Cashmere Poncho is a wool mix so it’s a more casual day time poncho and perfect for every day.  Layer it over a pair of indigo jeans such as the J Brand 811 in Ink or some leather look skinnies such as the J Brand Maria in Coated Black Quartz and a Splendid Shirting Pocket Blouse.

The all-rounder cape is the Gene from Pyrus London.  It is a style that would work just as well with jeans and chunky boots as it does with a pair of leather skinnies and heels.  It would also comfortably take you into a meeting, a day of shopping or out for dinner and it features leather trim, buckles and gradient wool.
