How to Wear White Jeans

White jeans are a key piece in your modern wardrobe because as a neutral, they go with everything.

This season we have fresh shapes for your white jeans which will take you through Spring Summer looking super stylish with Margot the Culotte, Sidney the Cropped Straight, Iris the Frill Jeans in Milk, Rizzo the Ankle Skinny and Jeanie the Cigarette Leg.

Classic slim, skinny jeans or culotte styles are effortlessly chic, just team with an off the shoulder blouse to bring it up to date. White jeans are always worth trying, just make sure you find the right style for you, so consider the shape, the rise and the fabric when you are buying a new pair. Let's take a look at five pairs of white jeans and how to style them.

DONNA IDA Margot the Culotte in Milk

Margot the Culotte is one of our best sellers. It is a high waisted style in a delicate white shade which flares out to a 22 inch leg opening. What’s nice about this style is that it can be tailored to get that ‘awkward’ fashion length, so you can snip the hem off and fray the edges, or you can release the hem to have the raw edge showing which adds a couple of inches.

I wear this style with court shoes, sandals or flats in Summer and then in Winter with boots. To finish it off I like a monochrome cashmere jumper or a silk blouse works well for evening.

Cashmere is the perfect option to take you through the chilly Spring months when the weather is changeable. Try a bold bright slogan knit or go for black for the classic contrast.

Iris the Frill Jean in Milk

Iris in Milk is a new style with a 26 inch cigarette leg which opens out into a frill hem. The high rise style takes inspiration from the ruffle tops which feature in the collection, adding a feminine touch to traditional denim. On our model above, they are a nice ankle crop but on me, they're a full length which I've teamed with flats or heels. There is always the option to take them up (just ask your tailor to keep the original hem).

White jeans encapsulate Summer as always look fresh and make you feel good as they are light and bright. Think of them as a wardrobe staple and wear them instead of black jeans to instantly invigorate your wardrobe. Team with Bit of Ruff Cashmere Polo Neck (pictured above) or look to a delicate Enchanted Garden Blouse for a dressier look.

Sidney the Cropped Straight

Sidney shot straight to the top of the best-sellers list last year thanks to a winning combination of soft, stretchy denim and a cool straight leg with a raw unfinished hem for a modern look.

Sitting nice and high rise, these jeans are a great weight of denim and will hold you in, balancing your figure by kicking out slightly at the ankle. I'll be wearing these with the Everyday Joy Shirt and a pair of box-fresh trainers this Summer or the Gold Cashmere Jumper and red strappy sandals.

These jeans are super versatile; wear them full length with a heel, chop the bottom off the jeans, leave them rouched at the ankle for a laid-back feel or turn them up for a cute and preppy look. Team with classic black tops for a monochrome feel.

Things to look out for when shopping for white jeans:

White jeans can be really flattering and fresh, just remember to look for the shape, fit and fabrication when you’re choosing a pair.

Look at the lycra content, you’ll probably find that around 2% stretch is enough to hold you in without being too tight.

The weight of the denim is also crucial, too thick and you might get too hot, too thin and you can see through it.

A medium weight denim, as you will find in DONNA IDA’s Jeanie the Cigarette and Rizzo the Skinny, will hold you in without being too tight.

A lot of white jeans have faux front pockets to keep the front of the jeans flat, but if you find the perfect pair of jeans and they still have pockets in them, a simple alteration can remove them.

Releasing the hem can update white jeans in an instant, just get your favourite white jeans and unpick the hem for an unfinished look. Find out more on Releasing Your Hems.

Finally when you buy jeans in a blue or black wash, I recommend going as tight as possible as you’ll probably wear them a few times before washing. However with white jeans, you’ll probably wash them with every wear, so go with a nice fit and buy them the size you are happy wearing.
