Jean Queen Donna Ida Thornton gives her verdict on the new trends for SS11.
FLARES
Thank God the flare, that most elegant of trouser shapes, hasn’t fallen foul to fashion’s 20 year rule. To wait till 2026 to rock a denim flare would have been a travesty. Thanks to Chloe’s elegant high waisted wide legged trousers on the SS11 catwalks that signalled the arrival of the 70’s trend it was only a matter of time before we started seeing denim flares cropping up in the pre-collections. Look to the new and eclectically retro denim collection – Mother Denim, embracing 70’s styling with flares and full A-line denim skirts fashioned in cashmere soft denim.
WHITE
In the denim world there is a saying it’s “one season on, one season off” for white denim and SS11 is definitely on. Denim is increasingly following the catwalk collections, echoing the runway at Philip Lim white features heavily in all the top designer denim collections.
MEDITERAEAN BLUE
True blue 70’s denim is making a revival in spring/summer 11. MiH Jeans have mastered Mediterranean blue with their new Athens Capri style.
NAVAJO FRINGING
With a nod to the American’s fringing is a strong trend showcased best by PRPS Heritage, with fringed shorts and red bandana patched skinnies.
LACE
Embrace your inner child with whimsical white lace denim dresses by Stella McCartney. Stella has re-created her hit SS10 dress in cut out white denim.
NUDE PINK
The new nude is sun kissed with a hint of rose quartz, stylised in cropped skinny leg jeans by Victoria Beckham and sexy boyfriend cuts by the experts Current/Elliott
