Seeing Red

If there is one thing I have learnt in the last couple of years at Donna Ida it’s that red is not just for Christmas.  The red denim trend first came through in Summer 2011 and has stuck ever since.  Red in any shade has proven to be the easiest colour to wear on your bottom half; it’s still as flattering as blue denim and just as easy to style.

Here are my top 5 essential red items and why:

I am always incredibly excited about anything that is an exclusive at Donna Ida as it makes me feel that little bit more special; so for that reason the Citizens of Humanity Arley in Lipstick has been top of my list for a while.  I love that it is a high rise as it elongates my legs and flattens my tummy.  It is also a luxury to have coloured denim in a straight leg so I wear mine with loafers or Converse for a relaxed feeling.

Every season I allow myself to have one extravagant purchase from Donna Ida and this season it was the Anna Sui Faux Fur Jacket in Merlot.  The colour had me hooked from day one and the faux fur is soft and luxurious.  This coat will see me through the party season and well into next spring.

This season Equipment is my go to cashmere brand; the Sloane Crew is perfect for layering over shirts.  I’ve been wearing mine with the Current/Elliott Rider Legging in Crimson; I never shy away from head to toe colour blocking.  Then if I feel I need to I will break it up with a patterned scarf from Becksondergaard or a chunky necklace and a neutral jacket.

Velvet skinnies have been super popular this season and my favourite style has been from Mother Denim. The Looker Skinny in Sweet Wine is a lovely soft tone and the fit is incredible especially on the bottom.   Wear it with a Minnie Rose Pow Wow in Cordovan and chunky heeled boots.

We have just received the holiday collection from Gestuz.  I love the wine coloured hues of this season as they work well for all complexions and are easy to style.  My favourite for this season is the Gestuz Twink Top in Wine Tasting. It hangs beautifully and looks great with the Goldsign Lure Skinny in Port.

Do not be afraid of wearing red head to toe or mixing your different shades.  Red is incredibly chic at any time of year as long as you wear it with confidence.
