My Favourite Birthday: Jo

As part of our 5th Birthday celebrations we asked all of our Donna Ida girls to tell us about their favourite birthdays. Here is Donna Ida Style Director, Jo's…

I have to admit that my favourite birthday was this Summer when I turned 27.  I usually hate birthdays; the pressure of having to organise something fun and different and being the centre of attention...but I really enjoyed this one.  I have always been an R’n’B girl at heart so when I found out that Snoop Dog was playing ON my birthday at Lovebox Festival in London; I knew that was how I’d be spending my 27th birthday!

I went with a small group of my closest friends and we started with a champagne brunch at my house before heading off to the festival where we quickly lowered our standards by drinking cider out of paper cups while standing in a field of mud.  The atmosphere was great, it rained on and off all day but it didn’t seem to dampen anyone’s spirits.  It was a fantastic afternoon, aided and abetted by ridiculous amounts of champagne, Pimms and cider, and spent raiding the jewellery stands for cheap bracelets that we definitely didn’t need.

Snoop Dog closed the day and was amazing.  It was worth standing in soggy clothes all day to watch him.  Girls seemed to be in the minority in the crowd and I somehow ended up on a number of guys' shoulders being passed around like a shiny new toy.  Once Snoop Dog had finished the set we all headed back to mine…a couple of years ago we would have probably carried on to an after party but since hitting our mid to late twenties we just wanted food and clean clothes.  This birthday will always stick in my memory, as it was so different to the usual night out.  It will also be my last birthday where we were all single girls as my best friend is due to get married next year and all will change.
