Donna’s Diary – Launching Jeans for Genes 2012

Thanks to all for your support of Jeans for Genes in 2011.  We raised over £50,000 last year for the Donna Ida Fund, which has been set up by Jeans for Genes to capture all your fundraising and funnel it into specific worthy causes.

…but now it is time to move on to 2012!

This year, we're launching our very own Olympics with the Donna Ida Summer of Sport!

There will be THREE different events that both men and women can take part in (sadly, just girls last year).  A 5k run, a 23 mile trek and a 65 mile bike ride. I will be taking part in all three (God help me), but I would be delighted if you would like to join me in one or two or all three events!

5k Richmond Park (Sheen Gate, Richmond Park SW14 8BJ) - Saturday 9th June

£20 Registration fee

We'll be joined by best-selling author of RUN FAT BITCH RUN, Ruth Field who will be head motivator (no doubt running behind me pushing me all the way) for this Richmond Park 5k.  A picnic will be waiting at the finish line so you should bring your friends and family who can be waiting to congratulate you!

Trek (Lewes to Eastbourne ) - Saturday 21st July

£40 Registration Fee

This 23 mile walk on the South Downs Way. Challenging and moderately strenuous with several climbs on the South Downs, a long high trek along the tops before descending beside the Cuckmere River and then finally the spectacular chalk cliff coast at Cuckmere Haven to Finish.

Cycle  (London to Brighton) - Saturday 25th August

£60 Registration Fee

Join me on a 65 mile bike ride from London to Brighton (if you don't have a bike the events company who are organising this can loan you one).

To register and find out more information, click here… if you sign up for all three, there is a £10 discount.

The aim this year is to reach £30,000!  This year the Donna Ida Fund is committed to supporting Jeans for Genes once again with very worthy causes including Batten Disease Family Association, Prader-Willi Syndrome Association, The Haemophilia Society and Rett UK.

The Donna Ida Summer of Sport will be challenging certainly (especially that bike ride...) but will be great preparation for my next challenge. In 2013 I will be leading a team to climb Mount Kilimanjaro for Jeans for Genes. The date is set for 7th-16th June 2013.  Plenty of time to prepare and panic but by all accounts it will be a hugely rewarding experience.  I would love you to join me, if you are interested please email press@donnaida.com and I will send you all the information.  There is a £399 fee to pay this Summer to secure your place for Kilimanjaro - and then there's no backing out!

Thank you so much for your support.

Donna
