Hello, my name is Maddison Rothery and I'm a 17 year old who just recently made the leap from Southern California to London in order to study photography at university here in the UK. My passion for photography stems from my love of fashion, so I'm excited to be joining the Denimology team in order to help you all find the perfect jeans!
Featured here are The Phantom Cropped Skinny jeans by Citizens of Humanity. They're simple, classic and comfortable; perfect for everyday wear. The dark blue denim looks great with a variety of tops and for this photoshoot I paired it with a slouchy knit sweater by Love. My favourite part about these jeans is the incredibly soft and stretchy feel to the denim. I almost felt as if I was wearing a pair of jeggings (except without the annoying the elastic waist and faux pockets). The colour is great as well, dark but not over-dyed with hints of subtle distressing in all the right places. There are no rips or holes, which allows these jeans to transition from day to day errands to a more formal outing. They are mid-rise and sit just above my hips, a style I have always felt comfortable with. The waist also is the perfect width for my body, typically if jeans fit snugly in the legs they're uncomfortably tight in the waist, but not these ones.
When I first read the tag and saw that they were cropped I became instantly worried. I imagined an awkwardly short pant leg, the kind you see on those cartoons of tourists (complete with thick white socks and sandals). However once I pulled them on, I realised they hit right at my ankle and were a very flattering length. They look good with heels, flats, and are great in boots (as the problem of trying to comfortably fit those few extra inches of bunched up denim into a tall boot is eliminated). All this being said, my sister tried on this same pair of jeans and found they were not remotely cropped, they actually dragged past her heels. She is however four inches shorter than me (I'm 5'7), so perhaps they are only really "cropped" if your a bit on the tall side.
The brand itself has been around since 2003 and quickly gained a reputation for their classic style mixed with unbeatable quality and custom tailored feel. Recently the Phantom Cropped Skinnies were seen on Blake Lively and the brand itself is a favourite of many celebs from Rachel Bilson, Cheryl Cole to Kim & Kourtney Kardashian. After wearing these jeans myself, I can certainly see why.
