Start It Up - Interview with designer Simeon Farrar

donna ida, simeon farrar, interview, start it up, designer, london fashion, london style, street style, street fashion, blogger style, blogger fashion,

We photographed with designer Simeon Farrar at his East London studio and had a few questions for him:

Describe your style highs and lows?
Style lows is way easier to recall. My last haircut looked like Doris Day, I went through an ill informed paisley phase at school (The Cure influenced) and then for a while wore nothing but heavy metal t-shirts (and trousers of course). My style highs are pretty much everyday now, I'm looking good. (discounting the Val Doonican vibe in these pictures)

What inspires you?
I get inspired by all sorts of things. Mainly art and music. Rarely fashion.

If you weren’t a designer what would you do?
That's easy, I'd be a painter, enjoying the blissful freedom of no seasons, no trade shows and no one giving a monkeys if you ever paint another thing again.

What advice would you give to a younger you?
Apart from "steer clear of the paisley" I'd say don't sweat the present because your life ain't gonna go the way you plan it to... but it'll be good. I'd also say "choose punk not metal, it's way cooler and chicks will dig it more when you're older."

Tell us about your alter ego ‘Black Score’?
Black Score basically listened to that advice and chose the right path. It doesn't take anything too seriously and just goes with it. It is underground and a sell-out both at the same time. It sticks it to The Man and IS The Man all at the same time. It's Dope.
