Packing for LA

For me packing is all about layering and adding every piece of the outfit as I go. I add the dress, shoes, handbag, jewellery, the whole outfit gets piled near the suitcase so I don't forget anything and then I start layering.

I'm going to a wedding in LA this weekend. Jeff Rudes, the founder of J Brand jeans (and someone we all love, whether we know itor not) is marrying Terre Jacobs, the designer of Feel The Piece. A match made in fashion heaven.

There are three events. A rehearsal dinner for guests who have travelled to the wedding which is tonight - dress is 'casual Californian chic'. I'm reading that as 'wear J Brand'.

The wedding itself is elegant. I'm wearing a floor length Halston Heritage gown. Never knowingly underdressed!

Then there's a brunch on the Sunday. It has to be J Brand again, no? Crazy not to.

Here's the first layer of my suitcase. My dress for the wedding is safely stashed in plastic on the bottom. I've then layered two Smythe jackets on top - perfect to wear with jeans!

Next come the jeans. Four pairs, all skinny. Two colours, a great basic denim blue and a khaki green in the great Maverick fit.

Then add some accessories. A Stella McCartney and a Miu Miu bag in nice fun LA colours.

Next is a Tucker blouse. Always travel with one! Such a handy item. And t-shirts, lots of tees. I've packed white, grey and black tees from J Brand, Splendid, Zoe's Tees and Kain.

The wedding invitation, can't forget that!

Next add a bikini! I'm staying at the Hotel Bel Air and plan to take a dip on the pool. This is one of my oldest but still favourite Melissa Odabash bikinis and a Tucker sarong.

Toiletries bag goes in last.

Shoes! The other side of the suitcase is always for shoes so they can be safely zipped away and won't pull my clothes.
